What Happened on Conan Last Night?

Humor, Television

This may rank with the weirdness of Joaquin Phoenix or Crispin Glover on Letterman, or even Norm Macdonald on Conan when people still knew what Melrose Place was. Last night it seems that Harrison Ford took a boatload ecstasy* and went on Conan to stare awkwardly and rub the inside and outside of his chair for the better part of 9 minutes.

*not really

An Interview with Mitch Hurwitz on what Arrested Development means now, and his new show Running Wilde [AV Club]

First of all, I need to work. I made a joke at [the creative keynote] that if I’d done Cocoon, I’d be fine not working anymore. I don’t have the benefit of that, because Arrested Development was not financially successful. So I have to work. That being said, I really love Will Arnett and believe in his talent, and want to exploit it for financial gain. [Laughs.] He had a deal at Fox. Fox is now run by Kevin Reilly, who I think is a really brilliant guy, and by Peter Rice, who’s helping to make the Arrested Development movie. So I feel like I’m being supported there. I’m grateful they’re willing to work with me. They spent a lot of money on Arrested Development, and hopefully they’ve made it back with DVDs.

Ad for David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs

Music, Television

This is an ad for David Bowie’s Diamond Dogs album. I haven’t seen any absolute confirmation that this ever aired, but a few people in the comments at Dangerous Minds say they saw it when it came out. What’s really strange about this is trying to remember a time when a label actually supported an album release from a rock artist. Kind of awesome.

Bored to Death Trailer #2

Television

This is the second trailer HBO has released for season two of Bored to Death starring Jason Schwartzman as author Jonathan Ames. The season premiere is on September 26 at 10pm EST on HBO. Pay attention lit types, this kind of thing probably won’t happen again for a while.

Unaired pilot to Adam West sitcom penned by Conan O’Brien and Robert Smigel

Television

Over at We Who are About to Die Daniel Nester points out a pilot episode of a show called Lockwell that was never made. But the show was written by Robert Smigel and Conan O’Brien and starred Adam West. West stars as Lockwell, an actor who once had a lead role as a detective on a moderately successful TV show. Too bad this one never made it.

There are no words to explain. Though, I did see it called “Boogie ’till you poop.” Which is fitting.
