I had the chance to see Jean-Jacques Perrey about two years ago in New York and there are few words but charming to describe him. However, the music wasn’t awesome. Perrey’s been around a really long time, so I don’t know what I expected. He’s an aging man who likes the lo-fi electronic sound that he cultivated so many years ago. Nonetheless, despite the music being a little cheesy and that he still wears a labcoat when he performs, Perrey was pretty awesome. I was reminded of this today when Dangerous Minds posted a video of Perrey playing the Ondioline – a sort of vaccuum-tube powered keyboard that sounds like it was created for the sole purpose of scoring cartoons. This music is Perrey performing as Mr. Ondioline – which looks more sinister than it truly is, and doesn’t sound even remotely sinister.
